About Jenny

Originally from Manchester, I studied Linguistics with English Literature at university and eventually went on to gain a PGCE. Following on from this, I taught English for 5 years before a short period of teaching English abroad through a volunteer programme with the International Humanity Foundation. I have also ran my own private tutoring business, published several educational resources, been a senior examiner and more recently worked for the NSPCC as a Childline counsellor.

I started writing poetry when I was 13 and have now been writing poetry for over 30 years. I find that writing poetry is both a creative and cathartic process. Poetry allows me to explore emotions, process life events and capture experiences that range from the mundane and ordinary to the profound and beautiful. I also keep a journal of motherhood (which I started 9 years ago when my youngest was a baby), written travel blogs and have begun writing a series of children’s books .

In January 2026 I joined Colwyn Bay Writer’s Circle, a wonderful, creative and supportive group that meets once a week to share writing on given themes. As part of the group, a collection of my poems has recently been published in the anthology: A Circle of Voices. In March 2016, I attended a retreat with the author Clare Macintosh at the beautiful Ty Newydd – the centre for Literature Wales – where I was lucky enough to meet and work with some incredible writers who encouraged and supported the birth of this website.

I am becoming ever more passionate about living a creative, authentic and peaceful life away from a world of noise and overstimulation. In the current reality which we find ourselves, I feel it’s paramount to connect with our creative life force in order to experience joy, meaning and purpose. Whether it’s art, music, pottery, knitting… my view is that artistic pursuits are essential for a healthy, balanced life. My outlet is mainly poetry, but I have recently taken up learning the piano. I also love yoga and reading. I currently live in North Wales where I home educate my two children and enjoy cuddles with my very placid cat.
